Dinner-to-be

Could not make a complete listing of my chickens without including the broilers. A mixed breed designed to grow very fast.

I got blacks and reds

This example I weighed a few nights ago: only 7 weeks old and 2 pounds already

This one doesn't seem to belong with the others, but she's just as big

Though she is about 3 weeks older than the broilers, Spot shares space with them. Too big to be with the 'babies', too little for the layers. They are already overtaking her. (I will rescue her from their fate, of course)

Another batch of growing chicks

I showed you Sonic before, she is an "Easter Egger",
they are bred to lay green or blue eggs.

Here are three different versions of the Easter Egger among the chicks:
I think I'll call this one Cleopatra because of her Egyptian eye makeup

I've never seen an all white Easter Egger: This is Pearl

Haven't named this cutie yet

Here's an unusual pair:
Notice the standard Barred Rock in the front and her sister behind her 'Lucky' IS a Barred Rock but why doesn't she have stripes like the others? She is unique, so she WON'T be going in the freezer this year. Makes her a lucky hen.

Looks like a Barred but actually a Maran, when this one lays, they will be 'chocolate eggs' (very dark brown), her name is Simone.

El Rancho Deluxe

Googled Tok Triangle: North road is Borealis, South is Mukluk, Eastern road is Midnight Sun and Western is Scoby Way. The E-W crossroad is Orion and the N-S one is Polaris.

This is a closer view of the same area. We have the square on the corner of Orion and Scoby (37.6 acres)

This is what Orion looked like, before Tony started working on it

Early land clearing...

Our new driveway off of Scoby (Tony's been working up a storm)

Making alot of progress

Tony had to take a little break and get a Tetanus shot after this close call with the chainsaw.

Some more growing chicks

This beautiful little hen is a Brown Leghorn
Don't you just love the rich burgundy color on this Rhode Island Red?
A curious White Rock (same breed as Colonel Sanders)

Babies are growing

This is a Barred Rock, the stripes remind me of jail house uniform, maybe I'll call her 'JailBird'

(or Jason ---inside joke LOL)

This is an Australorp, will be rich black with greenish sheen when grown. Any name suggestions?

More babies on the way soon!

Spot the chicken

I raised Spot as the first of the eggs hatched here. She is a real lovable critter for a chicken.
She likes to have her chest petted, comes running to greet me
The other new babies came to join Spot via mail when they were 3 days old and she was 8 days.
Can you tell which one is Spot??
And here is Spot today: NO SPOTS! Actually has two tiny little spots but you have to really look for them. I have to hold her and spread her feathers to see them LOL!

More chickens

The eggs I gathered today: There's another double-yolker and I hope you can tell the green tinged one (from Sonic). I should have plain white ones next year but this is the color variety I enjoy right now.

Snowflake and The Widow (Widow never got all her feathers back after last molting, she may end up in stew this winter, but don't tell her...)

The Bearded Lady

Nancy Grace (loud and obnoxious) has feathers on her feet

Strutting"Easter egger"

some of the chickens

I know I'm probably the only one who cares about chickens, but I'm having such a good time raising baby chicks and collecting eggs, just thought I'd show my flock..
